The Culture, Art, Tourism, Hospitality, and Sport Sector Education and Training Authority (CATHSSETA) is one of the 21 SETAs established under the Skills Development Act (No 97 of 1998) in 2001.CATHSSETA was formally known as the Tourism and Hospitality Education and Training Authority (THETA) until 1 April 2012, when they became the Culture, Art, Tourism, Hospitality and Sport Sector Education and Training Authority. Their mandate is to facilitate skills development within their sub-sectors through the disbursement of grants for learning programmes and monitoring of education and training as outlined in the National Skills Development Strategy (NSDS).

Department: Public Enterprises (DPE)

The Office of Public Enterprises (OPE) was established in 1994 to champion and direct the restructuring of State-Owned Companies (SOCs) and to ensure their optimal economic and developmental impact. A Cabinet decision was taken in 1999 to accelerate the restructuring of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and the OPE was upgraded and re-designated as the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) – a National Government Department. The DPE’s vision is to create an enabling environment in which SOCs add real economic value by focussing on operational excellence, commercial viability and fiscal prudence. This will drive developmental objectives, industrialisation, job creation and skills development.

Department: Basic Education (DBE)

The Department of Basic Education was formed when the former National Department of Education was split into two: Department of Basic Education and the Department of Higher Education and Training. The DBE deals with all schools from Grade R to Grade 12, including adult literacy programmes. The aim of the DBE is to develop, maintain and support a South African school education system for the 21st century.
