Since the inception, great strides forward have been made, and SAIDI is recognized by such bodies as the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), the Provincial Authorities, the Institute for Advanced Motorists of South Africa (IAM), the Automobile Association (AA) and the Department of Transport. The PFTC has five registered Professional Designations with SAQA as well as a number of internal Titles or Designations allocated by the PFTC to individuals. These Designations serve to recognise professionals within the industry and indicate where a particular professional is in their career path as a firearm training professional. Designations also prescribe the level at which a professional is allowed to perform based on the knowledge and skill set of that individual. The different designations set the standard of the professionals within the industry.

Continue reading →The Pretoria Society of Advocates, commonly known as the Pretoria Bar, is a voluntary association of advocates affiliated with a number of other Bars in the General Council of the Bar of South Africa (www.sabar.co.za). Such an association of practising advocates is traditionally referred to as a Bar. Apparently this tradition started in the United Kingdom when the newspapers of Fleet Street referred to barristers (the English equivalent of an advocate), then starting to appear in criminal courts in defence of an accused, as “the Gentlemen at the Bar”. This “bar” was a reference to the copper bar or railing in front of the accused in the dock, next to which his or her defender stood, and not a reference to a place serving beverages.
