African Climate and Development Initiative (ACDI)

The African Climate and Development Initiative (ACDI) was established in 2011 by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Town as a strategic initiative, to “facilitate and substantially extend climate change research and education at UCT with the specific context of addressing the development challenges of Africa from an African perspective”.

We aspire to take UCT’s work in climate change and development to new heights and into new spheres of influence to achieve enhanced impact and ensure climate compatible and resilient development pathways into the future.

New Testament Society of Southern Africa (NTSSA)

This society’s objectives are grouped under four headings: research, teaching, publications and equity. The purpose of the Society is to encourage, develop and support scholarship and research in the field of the New Testament and related disciplines in general, and specifically within the South African context, to stimulate effective teaching, to promote publication in the field, and to offer its members opportunities for mutual support, intellectual growth, and professional development. The society also strives for sensitivity and inclusivity regarding race, gender and disabilities. The society successfully implemented a postgraduate affiliation (PANTSSA), which provides opportunity for young scholars to share and develop their research.

Association for Skills Development in South Africa (ASDSA)

The Association for Skills Development in South Africa (ASDSA) is a Section 21 company that represents skills development practitioners and skills development administrators, which includes facilitators, assessors, moderators and training providers. Members are required to abide by a code of conduct and a constitution.
ASDSA is is a non-statutory, SAQA-recognised professional body.
They have three professional designations:

  1. Skills Development Technician (SD.Tech);
  2. Skills Development Practitioner (SD.Pr);
  3. Skills Development Master (SD.Mas)

COMENSA is is a non-statutory, SAQA-recognised professional body.

  2. COMENSA Senior Coach;
  3. COMENSA Master Coach;
  4. COMENSA Credentialed Mentor (CCM);
  5. COMENSA Senior Mentor (CSM);

National Education, Health & Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU)

NEHAWU struggles for union recognition, a living wage and a free and democratic South Africa. NEHAWU members faced brutal repression from the apartheid regime which saw the union as a direct challenge to its control of the public service. In other sectors, bitter struggles were fought against employers with reactionary practices like the Lifecare Group, Clinic Holdings, various old age homes, universities and technikons.
The battle cry of NEHAWU’s national strike in 1992 was “Wawutshelwe ubani ukuthi I-NEHAWU ifile?” Who told you that NEHAWU is dead? This slogan highlights the union’s will to survive.
