Family Care Association Pretoria (FCAP)

Family Care Association Pretoria (FCAP) worked in Mamelodi, a large township east of Pretoria with Stanza Bopape Community Development Centre, to distribute food and goods to underprivileged families and children. The objective was not to simply give “hand-outs,” but to provide education, training and assistance to help individuals and families become productive members of society. Most of the beneficiaries of FCAP programs live in deplorable conditions, but with assistance, training, and hope, their lives are able to change for the better.

The Environmental and Development Agency (EDA) Trust is a non-governmental organisation with over 20 years of experience in integrated rural development in the communal areas of South Africa. EDA works with rural communities and organisations in the Herschel and Maluti sub-regions of the Eastern Cape, in the southern and central districts of the Northern Province and in the Bronkhorstspruit district in Mpumalanga/Gauteng. EDA is affiliated to a number of rural networks of NGOs and CBOs, and will work to widen the discussions on traditional leaders and institutions into these networks, and to encourage broad participation in the popular formulation of policy at all levels.

Bongani Community Development Centre is a non-profit making community organization registered with the Department of Social Development at the Head Office in Pretoria. It was founded on humanitarian principles to serve and support needy people. It is also a public benefit organization under section 18A. We work with underprivileged children, youth, adults and pensioners at Glen Ridge low cost house and surrounding local informal settlements. Our services include five programmes namely: Home Based Care, Poverty Alleviation, Educational Awareness, Stress Relief Tours and Sports. Our objective are to keep away our young generation from streets, taking drugs and alcohol. To promote the love of education among the upcoming generation and to equip and empower unemployed people with different hand skills knowledge which will help them in all spheres of life.

Africa Institute of South Africa (AISA)

The Africa Institute of SA (AISA) undertakes basic and applied policy-relevant research that focuses on the development challenges and opportunities facing the African continent. It seeks to provide leadership and harness African agency in the drive for the transformation of African societies into dynamic, peaceful, prosperous spaces. Founded in 1956 and incorporated into the HSRC in 2014, AISA takes its lead from Agenda 2063, Africa’s strategic framework that aims to deliver on its goal for inclusive and sustainable development. The Africa Institute of South Africa undertakes basic, applied and comparative research devoted to the study of Africa and African Diasporas. The centre also collaborates with and provides research-based policy advice to African multilateral organisations on public affairs. Its projects create platforms for dialogue, research dissemination, and capacity building through interventions such as the African Unity for Renaissance Conference, the African Young Graduates Conference and the Archie Mafeje Memorial Annual Lecture. AISA’s key stakeholders include the African Union, the United Nations, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the Southern African Development Community, government departments, universities, science councils and civil society.
