The Eastern Cape Canoe Club was formed in 1963 by Norman Dyer and Tony Oshery, and the official provincial Union followed in 1977 under chairman Eldon Slabbert, with his son Stanford as secretary. The region’s premier event is undoubtedly the annual Hansa Fish River Marathon, ending in the Karoo town of Cradock, which now attracts over 1700 paddlers annually. SAMCA is the South African Majorette and Cheerleading Association is the SASCOC (South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee) recognized Federation for Majorettes and Cheerleading in South Africa. They have Regional offices in 8 Provinces, making accessibility within reach for all athletes and interested shareholders.

The Association strives to promote and make the sport with its related activities available to any athlete in South Africa. Athletes in neighbouring countries who find the sport interesting are more than welcome to take part.
