It is an Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) recognised Voluntary Association . ECSA is the South African statutory body which is constituted in terms of the Engineering Professions Act 46 of 2000.
The Chamber is a multi disciplinary, non political, voluntary association not for gain. It monitors engineering education and training standards and cares for the interests of its members wherever possible.
The Centre for the Advancement of Science and Mathematics Education (CASME) is the operating name of a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) registered as a Section 18(a) Educational Trust. CASME’s vision is “To be a world class centre for changing learners lives through Quality and Innovative Mathematics and Science Education.” CASME’s mission statement is: “To provide quality teacher professional development opportunities for mathematics and science education in under-resourced and rural schools in South Africa to improve learning outcomes.”

In addition to being the primary educators of students in the medical and allied health disciplines, research by ASSA members encompass clinical anatomy, embryology and developmental biology, imaging, cell biology, genetics, histology, neuroscience, forensics, microscopy, anthropology, movement science and numerous other exciting and developing areas.
