A united responsible voice, the SA National Consumer Union is a voluntary autonomous body that today represents millions of consumers. Its membership extends from the vitally important grass-roots support of leading women’s organisations such as the various Women’s Agricultural Unions, the National Council of Women of South Africthrough to influential bodies such as the DENOSthe Association of Retired Persons and Pensioners, KONTAK, etc. Being an independent organisation, the Consumer Union speaks with authority on behalf of all consumers. Its opinions are sought by manufacturers, retailers, the agricultural sector, the SA Bureau of Standards and Government. It works in close co-operation with all the above where the interest of the consumer is concerned. Its policy has always been one of communication and consultation before confrontation. It aims to build up consumers’ awareness of their rights, responsibilities and bargaining powers through education, information and protection.

National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA)

Numsa is the biggest metalworkers trade union in South Africa with more than 339, 567 members (as at January 2014).

Formed in 1987, it merged five different unions, some of whom had formed in the 1960s and 1970s. So Numsa brings a wealth of experience to trade unionism. It is the biggest trade union (except in Eskom) in all national bargaining forums where it bargains. Regional offices can be found in all the provinces.

The Metal and Engineering Industries Bargaining Council (MEIBC) is a statutory body created under the Labour Relations Act (LRA) to provide for the co-regulation of stable and productive employment relations in the metal and engineering industries.

The council is an industry based forum of organised business and labour that regulates employment conditions and labour relations in the metal and engineering industry. It provides the necessary, administrative infrastructure and technical expertise to ensure effective collective bargaining, industry compliance, dispute resolution and social protection services. As at end of November, The Council represented approximately 10 624 firms and 306 747 employees in the industry.
