Red Meat Industry Services (RMIS)

The Red Meat Industry Forum (RMIF) of South Africa is an umbrella council consisting of 13 nominated members each representing the interests of the most nationally representative sector specific organizations within the Red Meat Value Chain from the primary producer to the consumer. The RMIF was established in 1994 when the Agricultural control boards were disbanded and it was formally constituted in 1997 in accordance with the provisions of the Marketing of Agricultural Products Act, 1996 (Act No. 47 of 1996) as amended.

Restaurant Association of South Africa (RASA)

RASA is a body that was formed in 2004 to act in the interests of the South African restaurateur as a voice and lobbying body to speak on the behalf of restauranteurs.

RASA has direct representation with government and various other boards and promotes restaurants as a sector of hospitality.

RASA lobbies against government and has relationships with SAT, NDT, DOL TBCSGTCATHSSETBAC and other friends of the association.

Red Meat Abbatoir Association (RMAA)

The RMAA (Red Meat Abattoir Association) is a representative forum for abattoir owners in South Africa. The abattoir industry is responsible for the conversion of livestock to meat. This process remains critical to ensure a safe and wholesome product to consumers. The Meat Safety Act, 2000 (Act no. 40 of 2000) addresses measures to promote the safety of meat and animal products and to establish and maintain Essential National Standards in respect of abattoirs.

South African Animal Health Association (SAAHA)

The SA Animal Health Association (SAAHA) started operating as a Non-Profit Company on 1 January 2003. The Association, a “daughter” under the umbrella of AVCASA (Association of Veterinary and Crop Associations) used to be a division of AVCASA but is now an autonomous Association representing 90% of animal health product importers, manufacturers and suppliers in South Africa.

National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS)

The NHLS is a national public entity established in terms of the National Health Laboratory Service Act, No. 37 of 2000, governed by a Board to provide quality, affordable, and sustainable health laboratory services, training, and research. It was established in 2001, by amalgamating the former South African Institute for Medical Research (SAIMR), the National Institute for Virology and the National Centre for Occupational Health. It is managed according to the provisions of the National Health Laboratory Service Act, the NHLS Rules, and the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), No. 1 of 1999 (as amended).

Through its countrywide network of quality-assured diagnostic laboratories, the NHLS is the sole provider of diagnostic pathology services to over 80 percent of the South African population. It also provides surveillance support for communicable diseases, occupational health and cancer..
