Parasitological Society of Southern Africa (PARSA)

The Parasitological Society of SA is a non-profit organisation for scientists and researchers associated with southern Africa who are interested in all fields of parasitology. The society aims at promoting parasitology in this region and creating a forum for researchers, veterinary parasitologists, and other scientists and interested parties to meet and exchange information regarding their relative fields. This occurs at the annual PARSA meeting held within the southern African countries and is attended by a number of national and international participants. Furthermore, PARSA publishes a quarterly newsletter which is distributed to all of its members, conveying important information on the awards, opportunities and work being done by the southern African parasitologists.

Phasa Foundation (PHASA)

The Professional Hunters’ Association of South Africa (PHASA) takes its social responsibility seriously. In 2003, PHASA established the PHASA Conservation Fund. Initially, the aim of the Fund was to promote and directly fund worthy conservation projects. In 2005, the Fund extended its mandate, and its name was changed to the PHASA Conservation and Empowerment Fund and in 2019 to the PHASA Foundation.

Farmer Support Group (FSG)

FSG was established in 1985 in the Department of Plant Pathology of the, then, University of Natal, with the aim of making relevant scientific knowledge available to smallholder farmers. It now conducts action research to address issues pertinent to resource-constrained farmers. It also provides training, advice and project support in sustainable farming (including agroecology), nature conservation, strengthening local institutions, and enterprise development. Training is provided to development practitioners and students in participatory approaches to research and extension. Community members and other partner service providers, including government extension staff and scientists participate in designing and implementation of projects.

This organisation is also called Aartappels SA. Potatoes SA is a non-profit company of which our primary objective is to serve as the mouthpiece of the SA potato producers. Potatoes SA serves to establish and maintain a central representative body called the Potato Industry Forum, in respect of all potato affairs in which all the role players in the potato industry can participate and in doing so set industry strategies. Potatoes SA furthermore has the purpose to institute and endorse the maintenance of a national Potato Industry Development Trust (PIDT) which shall collect, distribute and govern industry levies in accordance to statutory strategies as set out in government notices. In terms of its role in the potato industry, Potatoes SA operates as an industry association and its structure represents a network of participating role players and individuals who are involved in various forums and committees. The vision of PSA is to build a viable potato industry in South Africa.
