The ARC-OVR strives to deliver world-class veterinary research in providing scientific support. Research activities focus on the development and improvement of vaccines and diagnostic tests, applying the latest molecular biological techniques.
OVR promotes animal health and welfare by providing an effective and efficient diagnostic service and producing vaccines against Foot and mouth and tick-borne diseases. OVR is the collaborating centre for both the Office International des Epizooties (OIE) surveillance and control of animal diseases in Africa and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations for the emergency preparedness for transboundary animal diseases for Africa.
Continue reading →The ODF is the national umbrella body for the promotion of organ and tissue donation. We actively plan and implement education and publicity programmes that are designed to raise awareness of organ and tissue donation with the aim being to prime individuals towards consent.
The ODF is not a medical organization and plays no role in the allocation, or procurement, of organs. We receive no funding from government and rely entirely on our own fundraising initiatives and generous donations from corporates and individuals to support our work.
The Foundation has two main focuses:
The NHLS is a national public entity established in terms of the National Health Laboratory Service Act, No. 37 of 2000, governed by a Board to provide quality, affordable, and sustainable health laboratory services, training, and research. It was established in 2001, by amalgamating the former South African Institute for Medical Research (SAIMR), the National Institute for Virology and the National Centre for Occupational Health. It is managed according to the provisions of the National Health Laboratory Service Act, the NHLS Rules, and the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), No. 1 of 1999 (as amended).
Through its countrywide network of quality-assured diagnostic laboratories, the NHLS is the sole provider of diagnostic pathology services to over 80 percent of the South African population. It also provides surveillance support for communicable diseases, occupational health and cancer..
