Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)

The HPCSA in conjunction with its 12 Professional Boards, is committed to promoting the health of the population, determining standards of professional education and training, and setting and maintaining excellent standards of ethical and professional practice. In order to safeguard the public and indirectly the professions, registration in terms of the Act is a prerequisite for practising any of the health professions with which Council is concerned. The Council guides and regulates the health professions in the country in aspects pertaining to registration, education and training, professional conduct and ethical behaviour, ensuring continuing professional development, and fostering compliance with healthcare standards. All individuals who practise any of the health care professions incorporated in the scope of the HPCSA are obliged by the Health Professions Act No. 56 of 1974 to register with the Council. Failure to do so constitutes a criminal offence.

General Council of The Bar of South Africa (GCBSA)

Advocates who are members of the General Council of the Bar of South Africa (the GCB) are competitive specialist advocates, who are experts in trial, motion court, appellate and opinion advocacy.

For advocacy, advice or arbitration in matters involving Southern African Law, the South African Bar is a rich source of talent, expertise and specialisation.

The Bar identifies itself fully with the ideals, aspirations and challenges presented by a new democratic South Africa. As a body of independent practitioners, the Bar is committed to providing specialised legal representation, at fair fees, to all persons who require such service.

By providing this representation, as well as facilities for the protection of human rights, access to justice for indigent persons and alternative dispute resolution, the bar serves all the people of South Africa.

Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA)

The ECSA’s primary role is the regulation of the engineering profession in terms of this Act. Its core functions are the accreditation of engineering programmes, registration of persons as professionals in specified categories, and the regulation of the practice of registered persons. Consequently, the ECSA is the only body in South Africa that is authorised to register engineering professionals and bestow the use of engineering titles, such as Pr Eng, Pr Tech Eng, Pr Techni Eng, Pr Cert Eng, on persons who have met the requisite professional registration criteria.

Education Labour Relations Council (ELRC)

The Education Labour Relations Council (ELRC) is a bargaining council that serves the public education sector nationally and provincially.
The primary business of the ELRC is to promote the maintenance of labour peace in the public education sector, through the provisioning of dispute resolution and prevention services.
The secondary business of the ELRC is to promote the maintenance of labour peace in the public education sector through the facilitation of negotiations between trade unions and the state as the Employer.
This bargaining council is a registered government bargaining council.

Built Environment Professions Export Council (BEPEC)

As one of South Africa’s 18 export councils, the Built Environment Professions Export Council (BEPEC) assists South African engineering, architects, and quantity surveying firms, as well as contractors to export their services into new markets in Africa and beyond.

As the prime export council in South Africa that focuses on built-environmental professions, we operate in a partnership with the South African Department of Trade and Industry (dti). As a result, our mandate is in line with their objectives: diversifying South Africa’s export sector by helping built-environment companies identify and access new markets. Additionally, we are also working towards transforming South Africans exports by helping smaller and black-owned businesses become export ready.

Cosmetic Export Council of South Africa (CECOSA)

The Cosmetic Export Council of South Africa (CECOSA) is a Section 21, non-profit organisation and has a Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) with the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti). CECOSA works in conjunction with the dti and South African Embassies/Economic Offices around the world. The prime objective is to create an exporting environment that will promote increased business for South African Companies and highlight our world-class cosmetic products to the global market.
