The Pretoria Horticultural Society is one of the oldest societies still operating in Pretoria. We are a group of dedicated gardeners who are willing to learn more about the modern trends in gardening and we all would like to have attractive gardens.
If you would like to enhance your gardening knowledge and enjoy a pleasant afternoon sociallising with like minded people then this is definitely the society for you.
The club as a whole, is interesting, in that the members are one big family, we go out together on outings, show off (brag) our finds, be it a beautifull fossil or stone/crystal we have picked up or even a lovely piece we have made in one of the silversmithing or facet classes

Continue reading →The society is also known as SA Hackney- Ponietelersgenootskap (HPG van SA). Most Hackney owners and breeders have become members, and the few owners and breeders who have not yet joined the Society, are invited to do so now, to enable membership to be brought up to full strength.
The Society has members all over the Republic of South Africbut there seem to be a concentration of breeders and owners in the Southern part of South Africa.

Continue reading →The Fern Society of Southern Africa (also known as the Varingvereniging van Suidelike Afrika) has been associated with various persons, places and organizations including Keith Kirsten’s Waterkloof Garden Centre (1985), the Manie van der Schijff Botanical Garden of the University of Pretoria (1989), the Pretoria National Botanical Garden (1990) and the Fern Festival in Graskop (1992). Several fern surveys were done for forestry companies as well as for Nature Conservation and various private landowners over the past 27 years. The Society presently has approximately 80 members throughout Southern Africall sharing a mutual interest in ferns.
