The Institute endeavours, through its numerous publications and other means, to convey to the public, as well as to the academic community, the complexity and subtlety of Africa’s rock arts.
The Institute seeks to record Africa’s fast-vanishing rock art heritage through its highly accurate copies and its photographs.
Unlike other branches of archaeology, rock art research has had no explicit, generally accepted theoretical base or methodology. The Institute is therefore developing research methods and techniques that are relevant to rock art research worldwide.
