recognition of packaging as a profession.
The International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC) is a schedule 3A Public Entity established in terms of the International Trade Administration Act, No 71 of 2002, and came into force on 1 June 2003. ITAC replaced its predecessor, the Board of Tariffs and Trade (BTT) that was established in 1986. The predecessor of the BTT is the Board on Trade and Industries (BTI) that dated back to 1924.
The aim of ITAC, as stated in the Act, is to foster economic growth and development in order to raise incomes and promote investment and employment in South Africa and within the Common Customs Union Area by establishing an efficient and effective system for the administration of international trade subject to this Act and the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) Agreement. The core functions are: customs tariff investigations; trade remedies; and import and export control.

It therefore promotes and collaborates in multi-institutional, cross-sectoral, bilateral and multi-lateral research teams. Its researchers are trained and experienced in project management and planning, and in teamwork. This business unit has a proud history of successful formal agreements with national and international initiatives, and actively participates in formal ARC cooperation agreements with other countries. It hosts international and national symposia and is experienced in facilitating workshops and problem analysis.
Continue reading →The stated purpose of the IBD is “the advancement of education of benefit to the public or a section of the public, specifically in the sciences of brewing, fermentation and distillation.” The word”sciences” needs to be interpreted broadly, and the Institute concerns itself with both scientific and technical matters to do with the brewing and packaging of fermented beverages. This includes general management aspects as appropriate.

Continue reading →The Islamic Social Welfare Association was formed in 1996 to seek solutions for the social problems amongst Muslims and its negative effects on society. Miss Gadija Fredericks and Mrs Nurounihaar Mintin co-ordinated a meeting with the Muslim Judicial Council where Imams, Social Workers and Community Workers, all voiced their concerns and attempted to start a structure to address these concerns.
There was an unanimous appeal for a professional social work agency that would use a model that integrated social science with in the Islamic framework. The meeting resulted in nine Muslims fully committing themselves to the establishment of such a structure.
The primarily aim of this structure was to address marital problems. This was to be achieved through pre-marital counselling, providing a treatment for marriages under stress and providing post divorce guidance for couples (especially women) who were left destitute. The overwhelming need for proper social services in all areas of social disfunctioning let ISWA to broaden its vision to include other counselling as well.

The organisation is a non-profit, common-law association owned and governed by the municipalities who are its members.

The IISA is a registered non-profit organisation established in 1966 by the industry to advance the insurance sector in South Africa and beyond. The primary responsibility of the institute to its members and the industry in general, is to promote the advancement of knowledge and skills, the maintenance of the highest level of standards and ethics as well as the professional development within the insurance industry.
