For 105 years, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts has planted, grown and shared Girl Guiding in diverse communities around the world and have provided opportunities for girls and women to be responsible global citizens. Our Guiding History The international Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting Movement, headed by WAGGGS the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, includes 10 million girls and women in 145 countries. Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting began in the UK in 1910, and spread rapidly around the world throughout 1911 and 1912. Since then, it has continued to reach many more countries. The Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting world is organised into five Regions: AfricArab, Asia Pacific, Europe and Western Hemisphere. Each country’s Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting activities are managed by a national Member Organisation. There are many differences between countries for example, some are girls-only and some also have boys as members.
