Petfood Industry Association of Southern Africa (PFI)

The Pet Food Industry Association of Southern Africa (PFI) is a non-profit body formed by pet food manufacturers, dedicated to upholding quality standards that ensure the nutritional wellbeing of household pets. Representative of 62% of the pet food market in South Africa, each member commits to manufacture and market food that meets internationally accepted standards as set out in Act 36 of 1947. The Department of Agriculture’s regulatory authority manages Act 36.

The PFI aids industry in facilitating the complaint process, highlighting matters of non-compliance to the inspectorate of Act 36 for investigation.

Paraffin Safety Association of Southern Africa (PASASA)

PASASA is a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring the safe use of paraffin in the domestic. Paraffin Safety Association of South Africa was founded in 1996 by the petroleum industry of South Africa for avoiding paraffin incidents and poisoning amongst children at that time. PASASA is headquartered in Cape Town, South Africa and has offices in Durban, South Africa.

The ARC-OVR strives to deliver world-class veterinary research in providing scientific support. Research activities focus on the development and improvement of vaccines and diagnostic tests, applying the latest molecular biological techniques.

OVR promotes animal health and welfare by providing an effective and efficient diagnostic service and producing vaccines against Foot and mouth and tick-borne diseases. OVR is the collaborating centre for both the Office International des Epizooties (OIE) surveillance and control of animal diseases in Africa and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations for the emergency preparedness for transboundary animal diseases for Africa.
