Urban Real Estate Research Unit (URERU)

The current and projected growth in African cities creates significant opportunities for real estate on the continent but also presents serious challenges in the form of infrastructure deficits, urban management and the financial viability of cities in general. While many of these opportunities and challenges are experienced elsewhere in the world, the nature and scale of them are unique to South Africa and the rest of the continent. For this reason, the main aim of the Research Unit is to provide a unique inter-disciplinary research platform for academia that promotes the identification of issues and seeks solutions to urban real estate investment, finance, economics and management problems in Africa.

South African Sugar Industry Agronomists’ Association (SASIAA)

SASIAA is a voluntary association existing under the auspices of the South African Sugarcane Research Institute (SASRI), and whose membership is open to all who qualify in terms of its constitution. It aims to promote the development and application of the science of sugarcane agronomy in Southern Africa by creating opportunities for the free exchange of relevant ideas, knowledge and information between members. We maintain records of various field trial reports and make these available to members.

National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS)

The NHLS is a national public entity established in terms of the National Health Laboratory Service Act, No. 37 of 2000, governed by a Board to provide quality, affordable, and sustainable health laboratory services, training, and research. It was established in 2001, by amalgamating the former South African Institute for Medical Research (SAIMR), the National Institute for Virology and the National Centre for Occupational Health. It is managed according to the provisions of the National Health Laboratory Service Act, the NHLS Rules, and the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), No. 1 of 1999 (as amended).

Through its countrywide network of quality-assured diagnostic laboratories, the NHLS is the sole provider of diagnostic pathology services to over 80 percent of the South African population. It also provides surveillance support for communicable diseases, occupational health and cancer..

Poultry Disease Management Agency (PDMA)

The PDMA, an initiative of the South African Poultry Association was established to have direct involvement in poultry disease control measures – ensuring quality control nationwide. It was envisaged that the PDMA would form partnerships with several stakeholders. The main stakeholder would be government, as most of the matters around disease control require government input. Over a period, the PDMA will form a Public Private Partnership with government to ensure that its objectives are met.

Plant Improvement South Africa (also known as Plantverbetering Suid-Afrika) is a non profit company incorporated under Schedule 5 of the Companies Act, 2008 (Act 71 of 2008). The company was registered in 2004 with the main objective of providing management and administrative services in support of plant improvement and plant certification in the interests of horticulture in South Africa.

The company is based in Paarl and currently provides services to the South African Deciduous Fruit Plant Certification Scheme and the South African Plant Certification Scheme for Vines.
