African Union Development Agency (AUDA_NEPAD)

The mandate of AUDA-NEPAD is to: a) Coordinate and Execute priority regional and continental projects to promote regional integration towards the accelerated realisation of Agenda 2063; and b) Strengthen capacity of African Union Member States and regional bodies, advance knowledge-based advisory support, undertake the full range of resource mobilisation and serve as the continent’s technical interface with all Africa’s development stakeholders and development partners.

The new AUDA-NEPAD mandate gives the organisation a wider role in terms of providing knowledge-based advisory support to AU Member States in the pursuit of their national development priorities.

Africa Institute of South Africa (AISA)

The Africa Institute of SA (AISA) undertakes basic and applied policy-relevant research that focuses on the development challenges and opportunities facing the African continent. It seeks to provide leadership and harness African agency in the drive for the transformation of African societies into dynamic, peaceful, prosperous spaces. Founded in 1956 and incorporated into the HSRC in 2014, AISA takes its lead from Agenda 2063, Africa’s strategic framework that aims to deliver on its goal for inclusive and sustainable development. The Africa Institute of South Africa undertakes basic, applied and comparative research devoted to the study of Africa and African Diasporas. The centre also collaborates with and provides research-based policy advice to African multilateral organisations on public affairs. Its projects create platforms for dialogue, research dissemination, and capacity building through interventions such as the African Unity for Renaissance Conference, the African Young Graduates Conference and the Archie Mafeje Memorial Annual Lecture. AISA’s key stakeholders include the African Union, the United Nations, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the Southern African Development Community, government departments, universities, science councils and civil society.

Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI)

Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) is an independent, transdisciplinary scientific research institute based across two campuses in the province of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) in South Africa.

AHRI’s research combines population, basic and translational, social, and clinical sciences to understand and intervene in the health and well-being of South African communities.

AHRI works in partnership with local communities and South African academic, governmental, and other policy stakeholders and collaborates with over 60 institutions globally. AHRI prioritises the training of the next generation of African scientists.

Africa Leadership Initiative South Africa (ALISA)

Since our inception, ALI has served as a Pan-African initiative with a strong view that Africa’s future lies in the investment and development of effective, values-based and enlightened African leaders.

As the Africa Leadership Initiative, it is our clear-cut objective to develop the next generation of values-based African leaders. These leaders will not only impart knowledge and share opinions, but also guide and lead their countries with integrity.

Our mission has not been an easy one, but through our programme, we have been able to empower a number of leaders who are now shaping the continent in a positive light.

ALI forms part of the Aspen Global Leadership Network (AGLN). This network was established worldwide in collaboration with the Aspen Institute, and consists of other leadership initiatives similar to ALI.

The Africa Leadership Initiative also spans across Africa. It is represented in three regions: ALI West Africa, ALI East Africa and ALI South Africa.

Using our networks and influence, we provide timely and credible analysis, practical training and technical assistance to governments and civil society. This promotes better policy and practice, because senior officials can make informed decisions about how to deal with Africa’s human security challenges.
