Institute of Loss Adjusters of Southern Africa (ILASA)

ILASA was established in 1963 as a voluntary Professional Institute specific to Insurance Loss Adjusters. This was at a similar time as the establishment of the IISA. The two bodies worked together to ensure cohesive and solid insurance qualifications for the Insurance Industry. Whilst the IISA focus on Insurance Brokers, Underwriters and Claims staff competencies, the ILASA specifically focuses on the Loss Adjusters who are independently appointed individuals to investigate complex and high value non-motor claims for Insurers and provide an independent report on the circumstances, cause, validity and settlement recommendations to Insurers.

Institute of Accounting and Commerce (IAC)

The Institute of Accounting and Commerce (IAC) (formerly The Institute of Administration and Commerce) was established in 1927 as a provider of distance learning education and a professional management institute.

In 2009 the Institute changed to become a professional accounting membership body only and is registered in South Africa as a non-profit company (NPC) (Reg. No. 1981/011981/08).

In terms of section 60 of the close corporations act 69 of 1984, the IAC registers Accounting Officers, and since 2013 is also a Recognised Controlling Body with SARS for Tax Practitioners (in terms of section 240 of the tax administration act 28 of 2011).

The objective of the SAIV is to promote the common interests of persons carrying out the valuers’ profession.

It is a voluntary professional organisation, and its purpose is to look after members’ interests. Today, SAIV represents more than 50% of registered valuers in South Africa.
