Continue reading →The Freedom of Expression Institute (FXI) was formed in 1994 to defend freedom of expression, to oppose censorship, to promote access to information and knowledge, and to promote media diversity. FXI is the leading organisations on issues of freedom of expression and access to information as enshrined in section 16 of the South African Constitution. The FXI was formed from a merger between the Anti-Censorship Action Group (ACAG) and the Campaign for Open Media (COM) in order to oppose censorship in South Africa. FXI works to contribute to the creation of a society where everyone enjoys freedom of expression and the right of access to, and dissemination of, information and knowledge. The Freedom of Expression Institute engages in litigation, research and education to promote and protect the right to freedom of expression. We educate the public about the dangers of censorship and network and engage in solidarity with groups opposing censorship locally and internationally.
