Consumers are often confused with myths and sensational misinformation about food and diets. The explosion of the internet and social media has fuelled misinformation about food facts. FACS offers free access to food facts and nutritional information.

The Food Advisory Consumer Service (FACS) information is sourced from local and overseas food and nutrition professionals and credible science-based organisations. FACS is run voluntarily and administered and funded by the South African Association for Food Science and Technology (SAAFoST) – a non-profit, scientific organisation for food and other science professionals in South Africa.
