FBUMA serves as the collective entity of employers (businesses) in our Industry and is therefore registered (in terms of the Labour Relations Act) as an Employers Organisation.
FBUMA represents its members in collective bargaining with Unions at Industry level. These negotiations take place at the Furniture Bargaining Council and include negotiations of wages and conditions of service for the majority of employers in our Industry.

Continue reading →The Islamic Social Welfare Association was formed in 1996 to seek solutions for the social problems amongst Muslims and its negative effects on society. Miss Gadija Fredericks and Mrs Nurounihaar Mintin co-ordinated a meeting with the Muslim Judicial Council where Imams, Social Workers and Community Workers, all voiced their concerns and attempted to start a structure to address these concerns.
There was an unanimous appeal for a professional social work agency that would use a model that integrated social science with in the Islamic framework. The meeting resulted in nine Muslims fully committing themselves to the establishment of such a structure.
The primarily aim of this structure was to address marital problems. This was to be achieved through pre-marital counselling, providing a treatment for marriages under stress and providing post divorce guidance for couples (especially women) who were left destitute. The overwhelming need for proper social services in all areas of social disfunctioning let ISWA to broaden its vision to include other counselling as well.

It was established in 1964 to study the problems of English in Africa and in the Republic in particular, as mother tongue, as an official language, and as a second language; how it is spoken and written by the main linguistic groups; how it is taught; to find out the weaknesses of the present system; and devise means to meet them: in fact, a Research Institute with a strong practical bias. – – – the Institute should sponsor research, collect information and organize training both for post-graduate students at the University and for teachers in service.
Today the Institute fulfils the aims of its founders in large-scale research and implementation projects in English education, in the publication of journals devoted to English language and literature in Africa and South Africand by providing a research base for scholars in the field covered by the Institute.

The ICFR is situated in the heart of plantation forestry in KwaZulu-Natal and is home to a research nursery, a well-equipped analytical laboratory, and a comprehensive library of forestry literature.
