The Energy Research Centre is the result of the logical merger of activities of the Energy Research Institute and the Energy Development Research Centre at the University of Cape Town. The Centre is an African-based multi-disciplinary energy research centre which pursues excellence in technology, policy and sustainable development research, education and capacity building programmes at a local and international level.

Continue reading →The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) is a regulatory authority established as a juristic person in terms of Section 3 of the National Energy Regulator Act, 2004 (Act No. 40 of 2004). NERSA’s mandate is to regulate the electricity, piped-gas and petroleum pipelines industries in terms of the Electricity Regulation Act, 2006 (Act No. 4 of 2006), Gas Act, 2001 (Act No. 48 of 2001) and Petroleum Pipelines Act, 2003 (Act No. 60 of 2003). The structure of the Energy Regulator consists of nine members, five of whom are part-time and four are full-time, including the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The Energy Regulator is supported by personnel under the direction of the CEO.
The mandate of NERSA is derived from legislation governing and prescribing the role and functions of the Regulator
Sustainable Energy Society of Southern Africa (SESSA) is dedicated to the promotion, use and development of renewable energy and energy efficiency.
SESSA Accreditation carries the most weight in the industry as it is highly sought after by Government, the Banking and Insurance industries as it is the only Accreditation that provides the consumer and institutions with any form of recourse. SESSA members and their clients have full access to the SESSA Ombud.
The Energy Council of SA was established in 2022 and plays a leadership role in South Africa’s energy sector, drives stakeholder and policy alignment, and assists in addressing major issues in the energy landscape for inclusive economic growth.
We serve as the collective, unified voice of the energy sector in South Africa and work closely with both the public and private sector to address major energy sector matters.

Multidisciplinary topics are covered including those in the coal producer and user sectors, clean coal technologies, alternative energies, conventional and unconventional gas, coalbed methane, health and safety, climate change and the environment.
