The organisation was formed by concerned industry sector operators and was formally registered after the Directory Registration and monitoring temporally dissolved Meter Taxi PRE structures(councils). The forming of SAMTAF was to present and advocate the accommodative interest of meter hailing taxi,E-hailing innovation industry in the absent of industry structures nationally and present meter taxi in governance and parliament.

The RMIF was established in 1994 when the Agricultural control boards were disbanded and it was formally constituted in 1997 in accordance with the provisions of the Marketing of Agricultural Products Act, 1996 (Act No. 47 of 1996) as amended.
