This process remains critical to ensure a safe and wholesome product to consumers. The Meat Safety Act, 2000 (Act no. 40 of 2000) addresses measures to promote the safety of meat and animal products and to establish and maintain Essential National Standards in respect of abattoirs.
Continue reading →The Racing Association was incorporated in December 1997 following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Horseracing Industry in Gauteng and the Gauteng Provincial Government. The essence of the agreement, signed on 30 June 1997, was that the parties agreed to re-organise and restructure the business of the racing industry into a single corporate entity to be listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange as soon as practically possible. The new company would have a broad base of shareholders with specific emphasis on previously disadvantaged communities.
Continue reading →On 30 September 2011 a founding conference was held at Unisa during which a unanimous decision was taken to establish the Association. The conference was attended by 60 academics from about 11 South African universities. In his opening speech at the conference, the VC and Principal, Prof Mandla Makhanyemphasised the importance of forming a subject association to promote the interests of the discipline of Development Studies and to act as a clearing house in negotiations with the government and other bodies.
