We hold promotion of research, support of education and training and advocacy as our central tenets. We are a special interest group of SA Heart Association and are strongly affiliated to PASCAR, the Pan-African society of cardiology – thus answering to the needs of the children of all of Africa. The society aims at promoting parasitology in this region and creating a forum for researchers, veterinary parasitologists, and other scientists and interested parties to meet and exchange information regarding their relative fields. This occurs at the annual PARSA meeting held within the southern African countries and is attended by a number of national and international participants. Furthermore, PARSA publishes a quarterly newsletter which is distributed to all of its members, conveying important information on the awards, opportunities and work being done by the southern African parasitologists.

The main objective of the Surgical Research Society of SA is to encourage and facilitate research in Southern Africa. Membership includes representatives from the medical schools in South Africa and those in Botswana Zambia Zimbabwe.
The objective of the SRSSA, as defined in the constitution, is “to provide for the interchange of information about research work related to surgery”. In its present form the society provides a platform to network and collaborate in research four countries in southern Africa.
