Deaf Sport South Africa (DSSA)

Deaf Sport South Africa or DSSA is the national association of multi-code sports of Deaf people in South Africa. Founded in 2012 by Deaf people from 7 provinces namely Free State, KwaZulu Natal, North West, Gauteng, Eastern Cape, Limpopo and Western Cape.
The reason behind the formation of DSSA was the passion for a winning Deaf national team and integrating into hearing sport bodies thereby ensuring equal access to resources.
DSSA is a registered non-profit organisation (NPO) and Public Benefit Organisation (PBO).

The mandate of the SSA is to provide the government with intelligence on domestic and foreign threats or potential threats to national stability, the constitutional order, and the safety and well being of our people. Examples of such threats are terrorism, sabotage and subversion. This allows the government to implement policies to deal with potential threats and to better understand existing threats and thus improve their policies.

Department: Human Settlements (DHS)

The Department came into being in 1994 after the dawn of democracy. Its roots can be traced back to 1956 when the Freedom Charter was adopted in Kliptown. The clause that says: There shall be houses, security and comfort is the founding base for the department. Also the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa (1996) state that access to housing is a basic human right, the government has to ensure that an environment conducive to progressive realisation of the right.

Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs: Free State Province (DESTEA)

DESTEA’s mission as a leading developmental institution is to drive environmentally sustainable economic growth and transformation for the benefit of the Free State province and its citizens through: the creation of a conducive environment for trade and investment, including the establishment of a progressive policy framework to promote wealth creation and equitable wealth distribution for economic transformation; preservation and sustainable use of natural resources; and being a capable, ethical and responsive organisation.

The department’s constitutional mandates require it to oversee and administer the following: trade; tourism; casinos, racing, gambling and wagering, excluding lotteries and sports pools; consumer protection; environment; industrial promotion; nature conservation; pollution control; provincial public enterprises; soil conservation; and liquor licenses and control of undertakings that sell liquor to the public.
