BlueCape was established in 2019 to support businesses and investors in the ocean economy, to remove barriers to entry and to support skills development and transformation for job creation. BlueCape works with its founding partners, the City of Cape Town, and the V&A Waterfront to support local provincial and national government to build a resilient ocean economy.

Over the past 64 years the association grew in stature and currently has over 200 members from most of the disciplines in the building industry. The full-time office is manned by five employees.
A variety of services are provided to members and the main objective is to look after their interests and provide them with the necessary information to operate their businesses successfully.

In addition to its own activities, the CEA has two active divisions: the Labour Broking Division and the Temporary Employment Services Division. The association also has close ties to the SA Institute of Steel Construction and the SA Institute of Welding.
