What is an association?
An association is a group of people who have joined together for a common purpose or goal, such as a professional organization, a trade union, a sports club, a charity, or a political advocacy group. An association often has a set of rules and regulations that govern its members, and it may engage in activities such as advocacy, networking, education, and social events.
In South Africa, associations can take many forms, including professional organizations, trade unions, advocacy groups, sports clubs, and charities. These organizations may have a formal structure and set of rules and regulations, and may engage in activities such as advocacy, education, networking, and social events.
Associations may be registered as non-profit organizations (NPOs) under the Non-Profit Organizations Act, which sets out the legal framework for the establishment and operation of NPOs in the country. Registered NPOs have certain legal obligations and may be eligible for certain benefits, such as tax exemptions.
