Southern African Society for Near Eastern Studies (SASNES)

This learned society was established in 1988 as the South African Society for Semitics. It was founded by academics, who were attached to universities in South Africa and worked mostly in the fields of Semitics, Judaica, and Islamic Studies. The aims of the society are to promote the study of and research on the Near East (including North Africa) in the spheres of language, literature, culture, religion, history and archaeology. There is a specific, but not exclusive focus on the Ancient Near East.

The minimum qualification for membership of the society is a Baccalaureus degree in Near Eastern Studies or related discipline (e.g. BA in Fine Arts, BA in Islamic Studies, or BA in Archaeology), or an equivalent qualification. Persons not meeting this requirement may be accepted on merit as members of the society by the executive, following the application process.

Annually, the society holds a national conference hosted by a university in Southern Africa. The society publishes a peer-reviewed journal, Journal for Semitics (JSem) twice a year. The journal is accredited by the South African Department of Higher Education and Training.

South African Agricultural and Machinery Association (SAAMA)

The SA Agricultural Machinery Association (SAAMA) is the official body representing new agricultural machinery manufacturers, importers and builders. SAAMA was founded in 1985.

As the official body, SAAMA serves as a combined forum for the agricultural machinery industry in South Africa in which the interests of its members and agriculture as a whole are addressed, promoted and developed.

SAAMA promotes and co-ordinates the collection, processing and publication of agricultural machinery industry statistics.

The SAAMA technical working group focuses on providing direction and support for practical compliance to existing and new legislation which may affect members and their customers.

South African Aerospace Maritime and Defence Export Council (SAAMDEC)

The AMD Export Council is a relatively new addition to the South African Defence Landscape. Established in 2015, jointly by the Department of Trade and Industry and AMD, for the express purpose of facilitating exports for the Defence and Related Industries Sector.

The Export Council is mandated by its members and the dti to promote and champion the collective interests of the sector by exploring new markets for the South African Defence Industry, growing the value and volume of sector exports and lastly by transforming and diversifying the export base thereby contributing to the transformational imperatives of South Africa.
