Rock Art Research Insitute (RARI)
Description | ||
The Institute seeks to develop understandings of Africa’s rock arts in terms of authentic beliefs, customs, rituals and life-ways.
The Institute endeavours, through its numerous publications and other means, to convey to the public, as well as to the academic community, the complexity and subtlety of Africa’s rock arts. The Institute seeks to record Africa’s fast-vanishing rock art heritage through its highly accurate copies and its photographs. Unlike other branches of archaeology, rock art research has had no explicit, generally accepted theoretical base or methodology. The Institute is therefore developing research methods and techniques that are relevant to rock art research worldwide. The Institute seeks, through the training and collaboration, to enhance Africa’s capacity to record, study, present, manage and conserve its unique rock art heritage. |
