|The origin of the domesticated pig industry in South Africa can be traced back to 1652 when the Dutch landed in the Cape to establish a halfway station on the sea route to the East. Although more pigs were imported from the island of St Helena at the end The Pig Breeders Society of South Africa (PBS) was formed on 20 September 1919 and has been affiliated since its inception to the South African Stud Book and Livestock Improvement Association.
